| | Crikey! It’s only been a few days since the last ‘G-Session’ – we can still hear the ringing in our ears – and yet, the magical carpet ride continues to gather pace unabated in its determination to bring the best local musical talent to the hungry masses (thats you lot!). It’s been a busy few months for the folks at Glasgowbury HQ, but its been great craic! ..and so, to cap off a busy year, the last ‘G-Session’ of 2006 (‘fraid so!) takes place back in its traditional surroundings of the Cellar Bar in Draperstown. Without further ado, here’s the low down: Saturday 2nd December sees the return of the Delawares to Draperstown. After the band’s successful Glasgowbury Festival appearance in the summer, ATL’s Stuart Bailie likened their sound as “Psychedelic folk meets Americana all wrapped into a wonderful package. These guys have the look and tunes to back it up, With three strong, distinct vocalists. Upbeat and tight makes this gig in itself well worth the trip to the sticks…” Strong praise indeed..! Having recently been trimuphant winners of Derry’s ‘Battle of the Bands’, Skruff are once again about to hit the N. Irish scene with a bang. Skruff have a truly unique sound, probably most accurately described by the Derry Journal as ‘a combination of rock/ska with melodic punky grooves.’ This sound is showcased perfectly in their latest 6 track E.P The Carnival of Chaos. | | The nice folks at Glasgowbury HQ have been in touch to let us know about the following event: Friday, 24th November sees the return of the G Sessions to The Elk in Toome, with featured artists the Beat Poets, Assassinate the Itch and General Fiasco. This will be the Beat Poets first ever ‘G Session’, based in Belfast, they tread a path somewhere along the lines of early U2 and The Bravery with some tinges of ’70s glam rock. Causing quite a stir at the moment in the Northern Irish music scene with some electrifying performances, the band have just released their debut single ‘Turn It On’ to great acclaim. Also from Belfast, Assassinate The Itch, are another four piece writing ‘get-it-off-your-chest’ music! Not to be missed live, ATi are an energetic, exciting and explosive band, sounding like the Smashing Pumpkins crossed with sigur rós. General Fiasco are another local rising band who are gigging the music scene, and are definitely ones to watch with their influences ranging from the Beatles to the Foo Fighters, check out their new demos on myspace. FREE! buses to the Elk leaving Maghera @ 8.30pm (Chapel) Draperstown @ 9.00pm (Cellar Bar) Magherfelt @ 9.30pm (Ulster Bank) Doors open 9pm. | | | | Loading ... |
